United head into Saturday’s match against Maidstone (kick-off 3pm) still missing forwards Rhys Murphy and Jake Gosling through injury.

Forward Rhys Murphy is out of contention while he continues his recovery from an ankle sprain.

“He’s been trying really hard to get fit, but he hasn’t made it,” said Torquay United head coach Gary Owers. “The fact that he missed a free weekend is probably a bonus. He didn’t miss another game.”

Ryan Higgins won’t be available as has been away from the Club dealing with a family matter.

Forward Jake Gosling is still on the side lines as he recovers from a fracture in his foot.

“He has had a bit of a setback,” said Owers. “He’s got to get through that stage where his foot is really sore. He’s not at a stage where he can be considered, yet.”

Having encouraged some players to seek match time by going on loan, Owers is dealing with the reality that some of his squad may not be match ready.

“There are plenty of numbers out there – plenty to pick from. I’m not sure that they’re all match-fit because some of them lack a lot of games. I wouldn’t say it was nineteen or twenty [players] playing at top of their game and in peak match fitness.”
