Player-manager Kevin Nicholson has made his choices for captain and vice-captain this season.

Defender Josh Gowling will take the captain’s armband with midfielder Luke Young the team’s vice-captain.

As the Gaffer outlines, the decision wasn’t an easy one to make, but he is sure that both players are fine choices.

On Josh Gowling’s appointment as team captain:

“I’m delighted to announce that the team captain for this season will be Josh Gowling.”

“His experience speaks for itself but he is a very intelligent guy who is desperate for success again and he has a great knowledge of the game at this level.

“He is happy to help develop our younger players, and he is never afraid to speak up to the players, or the staff if he feels things haven’t been done right.

“He is a whole-hearted player who will demand respect from players, staff, and the Yellow Army alike. He will be a big player for us this season.

On Luke Young being appointed vice captain:

“I think he can grow into a top captain and he will learn a lot from ‘Gowls’ [Josh Gowling].

“Everyone who knows ‘Youngy’, and has seen him play will respect him for the player that he is. He is keen to develop himself off the pitch and his relationships with the group and the staff.

“He is a leader by example without being the loudest player we have, and I’m sure he will drive the team forward with his performances.

It was a tough decision for the Gaffer to make, but he sees this as a good thing.

“What pleases me a lot about these decisions is how tough they were to make. There were candidates everywhere in the team for these roles and that can only be a good thing.

“So many of this group are leaders in their own way, and when any of my teams take to the field, I always hope that they all see themselves as leaders, and do what it takes to conduct themselves and play in that manner.”
