United will be back at Plainmoor tomorrow, as St Albans City visit the English Riviera.

The Gulls will be looking for their first league double of the season following United’s 1-0 win in Hertfordshire back in August thanks to Ollie Tomlinson’s solitary goal.

Who’s the boss?

Following the departure of manager David Noble to Wealdstone last week, St Albans currently have assistant manager Jon Meakes and club coach Harry Wheeler in interim charge of team affairs. Meakes had been Nobles assistant since his appointment in Nov 2022.

How have they been doing?

United’s 1-0 victory over the Saints at Clarence Park back in August was the beginning of a four match winless run for St Albans, which was halted by a 2-0 victory over Dover at the beginning of September, and was followed by three more victories in the league and cup. October brought two wins and three defeats and preceded a barren run of just one league and cup victory in seven games which was ended by a 2-1 home victory over Chelmsford in mid-December.

Since that Chelmsford win the Saints have only suffered one defeat, that being on Boxing Day when they were beaten by Hemel Hempstead Town. Last time out St Albans drew 1-1 at home to league leaders Yeovil Town, meaning they come into this game with a record of 14 wins, three draws and 12 defeats, and are one place behind United and level on points with 45 from their 29 games played so far.

Player to watch

Mitchell Weiss has scored nine league & cup goals for St Albans this season, while also assisting with eight other goals for the Saints. The 30 year old signed for the Hertfordshire club in August 2020 having previously played for Hayes & Yeading United, Hemel Hempstead Town & Kings Langley, where in his time their he scored 41 goals in all competitions. The strikers last goal  for St Albans came last Saturday against Yeovil Town where he scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Played for both

Jamie Sendles-White came through the ranks at Q.P.R and while with the Hoops he had loan spells at Colchester and Mansfield, before heading North to Scotland where he spent a season at Hamilton Academicals. He then returned down South, where he plied his trade at Swindon Town and then Leyton Orient, although his stay at the O’s was cut short and he joined St Albans City for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.

The 2018/19 season saw the defender arrive at Plainmoor for United’s National League South campaign, which culminated with promotion and the Championship, before he moved on to Crawley the following season. Spells at Aldershot Town and Maidenhead United came before the 29 year old spent last season at Welling United, where he played over 50 games for the club in the league and cup. This season has seen Sendles-White at United’s National League South rivals Yeovil Town.

Previous encounter

United 4 – 1 St Albans | Tuesday 13th November 2018 | National League South

A dominant attacking display saw United take all three points in a 4-1 win over St Albans at Plainmoor.

A brace from Jamie Reid, an own goal from Tom Bender, and a cute finish from Jake Andrews was enough to get United back to winning ways. It was a performance that the Yellow Army had been waiting for, and wanted to see from their team in the future. Every player contributed, and together they showed how effective they were in dominating opposition teams.
