Gary Johnson’s men take a break from league action this weekend as United head to Kent to face Tonbridge Angels in the FA Trophy 3rd Round.

Torquay make their first ever trip to the The Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium for this tie, facing a Tonbridge side that will be looking to cause an upset against their higher league opponents.

The Angels are currently managed by Steve McKimm who has been at the club since May 2014. Two years previous to his appointment at Tonbridge McKimm was Paul Doswell’s Head Coach at Sutton United. The former central midfielder guided the Angels to the Vanarama National South via the Isthmian Premier play-offs in the 2018/19 season.

Currently this season Tonbridge have had an indifferent start to their campaign winning only three of their sixteen league matches so far, and find themselves in 18th position in The National League South table. The Angels reached the 3rd Round of the FA Trophy thanks to a 1-0 win away at Canvey Island in the 2nd Round, with the only goal of the game coming in the second-half from current top scorer Joe Turner.

Players that have played for both clubs include David Fitzpatrick who had a loan spell at United in the 2016/17 season, where in fourteen appearances for the club he scored three goals. Fitzpatrick also had a loan spell at the Angels in 2015. Also to pull on the shirt for both clubs is Shamir Fenelon who played for the Gulls – under the surname of Goodwin – on loan from Brighton in 2014 making twelve appearances scoring one goal. Fenelon also had a loan spell at Tonbridge prior to his spell at Plainmoor, where he scored an impressive four goals in just eight appearances.
