The last twelve months may have been the most testing in living memory, however one of the few positives to emerge from it has been the sight of local communities coming together, to support one another, during this period.
Proudly established as a focal point at the heart of Torbay for over 120 years, Torquay United AFC has experienced first-hand how partnerships with supporters and sponsors can be both established and strengthened, despite the obvious limitations posed by a pandemic.
Whilst the majority of the current campaign has seen the Yellow Army sadly absent from the Plainmoor terraces, the introduction of the Club’s incredibly popular livestreaming service has given supporters the opportunity to follow the action from the comfort of their own homes all over the world, whilst United’s sponsors have been quick to make the most of some unique global exposure.
The impressive form of Gary Johnson’s side has seen The Gulls rise to the very top of the National League, resulting in promotion back to the Football League being very much on the agenda. With Torquay United’s global support base growing accordingly during recent months, a pitchside advertising board can now be seen by viewers in USA, Australia, Asia and beyond!
In return for their valued support, Torquay United AFC have been delighted for those companies to share the limelight with the heroes out on the field over the last few weeks, with a special thank you reserved for stand and shirt sponsors, Thatchers, Wollens, Torbay Weekly, Pro Direct and MB Insolvency.
Those partnerships are to name just a few though, with other much-valued and well-known friends of the Club – such as Sherwell Valley Garage, Briard & Hutchings, JMV, DGM and Tolchards – also seeing their profile raised as a result of their association with Torbay’s only professional sporting team.
“It has been a real boost for the Club,” said Commercial Manager Sharon Cox.
“During what has been a very difficult past twelve months, we have been privileged to have seen a number of our long-standing sponsors reaffirm their commitment to the club, and everybody at Plainmoor is extremely grateful for that.
“Although it’s obviously been a real shame that supporters have been unable to watch games at the stadium for most of the last year, our livestreaming service has opened up a whole new range of opportunities for our partners, with supporters all over the world being able to watch matches, and in turn, learn more about our sponsors’ brands.
“This, in addition to the added exposure the Club has gained from BT Sport this season – due to the team’s brilliant performances – mean Torquay United can now offer more than ever before!
“It is all about working together – for the benefit of our club, but also our sponsors.”
With Johnson’s men continuing to ride the crest of a wave in pursuit of an EFL place, there really has never been a better time to get involved with the Club, and enjoy the benefits of what is a unique and exciting sporting partnership, right here in the heart of the English Riviera!
