The magic of the Emirates FA Cup comes to Plainmoor once again on Saturday and TUFC manager Gary Johnson is emphasising the Yellow Army’s potential impact against Woking.
“I’m hoping it’s one club together at the moment where we’re all thinking the same thoughts – not too many negatives,” said Johnson at today’s press call. “Watch the boys go if once again there is that support that everyone’s been giving us.
“A good FA Cup run brings the community together. You don’t want to see queues outside the ground for tickets, but you want to see queues outside the ground for tickets!”
At this point in the FA Cup teams are energised by the thought of playing some of the biggest teams in the country. It has happened before for Johnson who played Liverpool and Manchester United while manager of Yeovil Town.
“Getting to the point of playing those team means that you’ve had a good run in the Cup. That’s what I’d like this club to do.”
The Gaffer doesn’t see United’s National League South match against Woking earlier this season as playing much of a part in Saturday’s game.
“Since then I think they’ve made a few changes to their squad, and we certainly have made a few changes to our squad. We’ll have to see how they turn up, and see how we turn it. Both teams will are going to be trying to stop the other team playing, as well as trying to play themselves. I think it will be a good football match, I think they’ve got some decent footballers and I think we have as well.
“We’ve to respect that there’s opposition out there stopping you doing what you want to do. You’d be lucky to get two halves exactly the same but that is your objective is, of course. The players have got to be consistent over 90 minutes. If we can get that, you’re going to have times when the opposition have got the momentum and you haven’t and then you’ve got to deal with it. I can moan at them after the game, but then we’re all ready for the next game. The lads have been brilliant; they’ve taken on board everything that’s put out to them, and hopefully they’ll have the ability to perform in the way we want them to play.
Samir Nabi misses out after an appeal against the red card he received against Weston-super-Mare was rejected. As always the Gaffer is keeping any injury news close to his chest on who might not be fit for the match.
“It’s still early, I reserve my judgment for later on. We’re crossing our fingers for maybe one or two.
