TUAFC caught up with Pete Surcombe, to find out about his role at the Club selling 50/50 draw tickets amongst other things.

Pete will be familiar face to those of the Yellow Army who buy 50/50 draw tickets here at Plainmoor, and Pete told us all about his time here at United selling those potential winning tickets to fans on matchdays.

“I think that being a volunteer is a very important part of the Club because I’m a 50/50 seller and I also write programme notes on each visiting team which I enjoy doing just as much, but I thoroughly recommend people coming forward, playing an extra part in supporting this fantastic Club we have got & that needs all the help it can get, and volunteers have a very important role to play in that.”

“I’ve been coming to Torquay for 58 years now, with my first match being the infamous 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in 1965 and am looking forward to the 60th anniversary of that game in less then 18 months time, so I’ve supported the Gulls ever since then, and they have always been the Club for me.”

“I remember a few years back now during the Paul Cox era going around the ground scrubbing down every seat in the Family Stand, and indeed up on Bristow’s Bench during the close season, with again some more volunteers who came forward and we had great fun doing it, and it’s nice to keep the ground looking spik & span every week, and though some of the seats are getting faded they are always kept clean, and I will always try to help support the Club in any way I can.”

“When I walk around the ground i keep saying hi to people and shake hands with them, and it’s great to see regular people on matchdays. I sit with my fellow 50/50 sellers watching the matches now and we have some good old banter there, and there is such a family atmosphere about the Club as it is a real community Club.”

TUAFC would like to thank Pete and all the other volunteers that help out on matchdays here at Plainmoor, and appreciate the hard work you all put in.

Torquay United AFC is privileged to be able to call upon a whole host of volunteers, who all play a vital role in the smooth running of the Club.. Anybody who shares our passion for pushing our Club onto greater heights, and would like to join our team of volunteers either throughout the week or also on matchdays, are invited to contact us via [email protected], detailing which areas of the Club is of particular interest to them.
