TUAFC caught up with groundsman Julian Goldthorpe to get the latest update on the ongoing pitch renovation work at Plainmoor.

“Inscapes have been sandbanding, which will link all the pitch up with the drainage system under the ground,” began Julian.

“They have been going in a slight diagonal motion across the pitch. The machine itself has got blades on it, so it digs into the soil, and then behind it, they have been laying in a track of sand ready to link up with the drainage.”

“Some of the other guys have been using turf cutters to finish off the outside of the pitch where they couldn’t get to with the Koro machine, and this along with the sandbanding, will see the completion of the second faze of renovation.”

Further updates on the progress of the playing surface will appear regularly throughout the pre-season break, however you can be assured that come August, Plainmoor will once again be looking pitch-perfect!
