Tiverton Town 1

(Rogers 17′)

TUFC 3

(Trialist B 37′, 45′ pen, Wright 71′)

United returned to winning ways in pre-season thanks to a 3-1 win over Tiverton Town at The Ian Moorcroft Stadium.

United had to come from behind after Rogers struck for Tivvy in the 17th minute. Trialist B then struck twice in eight minutes for United. His first was a smart finish into the top right corner in the 37th minute. Not long after, he was taken down by Tiverton’s goalkeeper inside the penalty box just before half-time. He recovered to slot home the spot kick to take United into the lead at the break.

Danny Wright tapped in United’s third in the 71st minute to wrap the game up.

TUFC manager Gary Johnson had this to say after the final whistle:

“It was a competitive game which is good. We played two halves, really, so everybody got 45 minutes – some got a little bit longer. We scored three decent goals – they scored a decent goal as well.

“That was the last of the ‘trialist days’ really. We had a couple of trialists we were having a look at. Now the next two games will be the serious games where we need to pick a team with a thought of Altrincham.

“We wish Tiverton well. It was a good, competitive game that was the main thing. We looked a little bit sharper on occasions than we have done previously, but there’s still a bit to do.”
