With the 2021/22 season now over, pitch renovation work is well underway at Plainmoor to ensure the pitch is in perfect condition next term.
With Julian Goldthorpe once again overseeing the summer improvements, United’s groundsman took time out to explain some of the renovation work which began earlier this week.
“We have got a professional company in called Inscapes, and what they are doing at the moment is taking the top layer off the pitch. The machine they are using is called a Koro and it takes off 25mm of the top surface, and it goes down into the soil and takes out the grass and the roots to leave a nice clean surface,” said Julian.
“The company will do two passes of the pitch with the first one being the difficult one, as they can come up against some tough bits, with the second pass being where they take off what’s left. There are currently five guys attending to the pitch, with the Koro is mounted to the tractor and it will take approximately 120 tonnes of surface off the pitch altogether.
“Once this stage is completed, then Inscapes will move on to the next part which is called Sandbanding, and that will link all the pitch up with the drainage system under the pitch.”
The footballing action may have come to a pause for the summer, but as you can see from the video below, there’s still plenty of work going on to ensure that both Gary Johnson’s 2022/23 squad – and the Yellow Army – have a pitch to be proud of!
