Preparations have begun ahead of the new 2024/25 season, and there’s still plenty of action out on the pitch, with renovations beginning recently on Plainmoor’s hallowed turf.
The Plainmoor pitch is now undergoing it’s regeneration in time for the start of the new season, and we caught up with Head Groundsman Julian Gouldthorpe, who told us all about the plans for the pitch over the coming days.
“It is all systems go now with the pitch, with our usual company Inscapes coming in to take the top off the pitch and do the sandbanding. We are going down to the depth of 15mm, and Inscapes are using the Koro machine, which is the piece of equipment that takes the top layer off the surface, leaving it nice and clean.”
“Once they have done that they will then go onto the process of sandbanding, which is where extra sand is put into the pitch at a depth of 25mm, or maybe more depending on if we decide the pitch needs the sand lower down. From there we will then be top dressing the surface, verti-draining and then seeding, before we then wait for the first shoots of grass to break through.”
There will be more updates on the pitch renovations next week, as the final parts of the process are put into place.
