Following the FA Cup 4th round qualifying victory over Sholing FC on Saturday, Gary Johnson’s side are looking to continue their excellent start to the National League season at Aldershot on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick-off).
With United currently in 2nd position in the early standings – only behind Stockport County on goal difference – United’s boss is expecting more of the same from his side in what is the first of two away fixtures this week.
“After four good wins in the league and one in the cup, I’m hoping the boys turn up at Aldershot full of energy, full of spirit, and full of quality.
“These next two away games are obviously difficult games, but I know from the atmosphere in training that the boys are looking forward to it.”
Although United came out on top twice against The Shots last season (2-0 in the National League and 5-1 in the FA Trophy), both of those fixtures took Plainmoor, meaning tomorrow will be The Gulls’ first visit to The EBB Stadium in three years.
Having suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening two games of the season, Danny Searle’s side bounced back in style to record a 5-0 away thrashing of Dover, before following that up with a creditable point at Eastleigh. That result left the team in 14th position, with four points from four outings.
Two members of Town’s line-up in Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat against Woking will be of particular interest to United fans.
Ross McCormack’s arrival during the summer appears to be something of a coup, coming just four years after the Scottish international switched from Fulham to Aston Villa for a fee reported to be in the region of £12 million pounds. An injury on Saturday though, has put his participation against United in some doubt.
The Yellow Army will also be familiar with Aldershot captain Jamie Sendles-White, having become Johnson’s first signing following his arrival at Plainmoor in September 2018. The former Swindon and Leyton Orient centre-back ended the campaign with a National League South winners medal, after making 23 league appearances during a memorable 2018/19.
Aldershot will be providing a livestream service for this fixture here, whilst there will also be full live commentary of the match via TUFC Radio here.
