United face Aldershot tonight in another tough National League fixture. The Shots went top of the National League after a 2-0 win over Halifax Town on the opening day of the season.

Player-manager Kevin Nicholson knows the challenge that lies ahead for his team.

“Aldershot will be another good test for us,” said Nicholson.

“They’re are a team who have pretty much the same personnel as last season so they have an understanding of each other’s games and good chemistry. Couple this with a proven manager and you can see why they are among the favourites for promotion this season.

“They are a slightly different threat than Tranmere as their biggest dangers are pace all over the pitch, a very attacking and expansive passing game and strength in depth.

“It’s up to us to match all of the physical attributes they have, use our physicality and then use their excellent pitch to get the ball in the right areas and move it quickly ourselves.

“If we can do that then I think we can be a threat to anyone and I’m looking forward to another tough encounter.”
