United take their eight game National League South unbeaten run to Dartford in Tuesday’s 7:45pm KO.
“We have another key game away from home against Dartford who have done very well up to now,” said TUFC manager Gary Johnson.
After Saturday’s trip to Dulwich Hamlet the Yellow Army will be travelling an hour further east to Dartford. The Darts sit in sixth place in the bale with nine wins, three draws, and five defeats from their seventeen games so far.
“We’re going to respect their strengths and try and attack their weaknesses. They’re up there because they are a good consistent team at the moment. It’s a nice pitch and for anyone that does travel, it’s a comfortable stadium which is good.”
The Gaffer ruminates over each performance to find ways his side can improve.
“Saturday’s game was interesting. All of our opponents will look to level the playing field. Some will try and beat you up, some will put three up front and attack you with long balls, the weather might be a factor. We’ve got to be ready for that situation. If you are going well then everyone is going to look for your Achilles’ heel. They’re all going to try and find it by different methods. We’ve got to understand that and deal with it and game manage at the time.
“Although our performance wasn’t good [against Dulwich] our attitude was very good because we competed. I had no shrinking violets in the first half when they were putting us under a little bit of pressure. In the second half we took over the game after staying in the battle. There were two quality goals and there was a bit more space. Our goalkeeper came up trumps when he needed to and everybody did their job. We were delighted to come away with a 2-0 win.”
The players will be leaning on the experience of Gary Johnson as we enter the busy Christmas period.
“We had a good training session today and the boys are in good spirits. We’d like to keep our unbeaten run in the league going. Every win you get now consolidates your position. Like everyone else we are going for the top one but this is a crucial period. You have to win games at this time rather than wait until March, April, where you might be trying to catch up. We’ve got to consolidate our position as soon as possible.”
