United look to capitalize on Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Leyton Orient when they take on Solihull Moors at Damson Park on Saturday (17/03/18 | kick-off 3pm).
United closed the gap to survival to six points with that victory and play a Solihull Moors side that are one place above United in 21st place.
“This is the biggest game of the season, without a doubt,” said TUFC head coach Gary Owers.
“I keep hearing people say that Solihull look like the team that are going to get out of it, and if we go there and beat them then we’re in striking distance so we’ve got a great chance. We’re going there in a good frame of mind after an excellent performance and a great victory on Tuesday at Orient. We hold no fear. They’ll be looking at us and I wouldn’t be surprised if in their minds they’ve got it marked down as three points. We have to go there and upset the apple cart and bring them closer to us [in the table].”
Solihull Moors (P36, W9, D8, L19) have won one of their last five game. That victory came in a 3-2 win over Dover Athletic. Kyle Storer, Kalern Thomas, and Alex Reid with the goals. Oladapo Afolayan has scored the most goals for Solihull Moors this season with 11 National League goals before his move to Premier League side, West Ham United.
Moors’ conceded a late goal on Tuesday night against Gateshead to have to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw. Chris Lait struck in the 87th minute to give Solihull the lead but an own goal from Liam Daly allowed Gateshead to equalize.
United defender Josh Gowling will be missing from the match day squad as he continues his recovery in line with concussion protocol. Gowling caught a knee in the head from teammate Vincent Dorel against Orient and misses out. New loan signing Rhys Healey goes into the match day squad after completing his move on Friday.
After Tuesday night’s superb support from the Yellow Army, United will need more of the same on Saturday. If you can get along to support the lads then it could make all of the difference.
