United return to National League action on Saturday, as Boreham Wood head to Plainmoor to take on Gary Johnson’s side.
With Sunday’s FA Cup disappointment against Crawley now consigned to the archives, United will look to continue their recent fine league form, with six wins out of seven seeing the club proudly sitting in the top spot, whilst earning Johnson the Vanarama National League Manager of the Month accolade in the process.
Midweek fixtures had implications for both sides, with Wealdstone’s victory at Halifax seeing Torquay’s lead at the top of the fledgling table reduced to two points, whilst The Wood went down to a home defeat against Dagenham & Redbridge.
Despite that defeat, The Gulls’ boss still sees tomorrow’s visitors as one of the leading sides in the division, especially with the 2020/21 campaign still in its infancy.
“We welcome Luke Garrard and his staff to Plainmoor. In my opinion Boreham Wood will be one of the teams that will be competing in the top half of the table at the end of the season.
“They are coming off the back of a defeat against Dagenham, however previous to that, they had a very good FA Cup win against Southend.
“We look forward to our game, and hope we can produce the game that picks up three points. Even at this early stage, three points, with another home game coming against Solihull Moors, are very important.”
The Yellow Army will no doubt be seeking a repeat of last season’s outings at Plainmoor, with a 2-1 opening day victory followed up by a 3-2 FA Cup triumph against the same opponents two months later.
