Torquay United’s campaign to raise funds for a new public defibrillator at Plainmoor saw an immense response, with the local community uniting together for this worthy cause.
A cardiac arrest can affect anyone at any time – whether you’re at home, work, or out in public – and with public defibrillators often proving to be the difference between life and death, finding one as quickly as possible is vitally important to help save someone’s life.
Having a defibrillator located outside the stadium will not only be of benefit to those attending matches at Plainmoor, but also the local community.
Following on from our fundraising campaign, the defibrillator has now been installed outside the entrance to our Boots & Laces premises, and is ready to use at a moments notice with the code to use the machine registered to the local NHS ambulance service, or when open is available to get from one of our bar staff.
Martin from Preston & Paignton Community Defibrillator Project recently provided an insightful talk about the importance of a defibrillator and how it’s used, at February’s Retro Gulls event. He also gave the group a demonstration on a mannequin, before letting the Retro Gulls have a go themselves!
TUAFC would like to place on record its thanks to everyone that supported this campaign, with the generosity and hard work of all involved not only showing community spirit at its best, but also underlining that when the community unites together, anything is possible!
