After witnessing United from an opposition perspective last season, Ryan Hanson is keen to get going after making the switch to the English Riviera recently.
Having been appointed as Dover captain at just 21 years of age in February, Hanson arrives at Plainmoor as an exciting young prospect to bolster Gary Johnson’s new-look side.
The midfielder impressed the Gaffer playing for his hometown Club last season, and was unveiled as the first summer signing last week, with Ryan emphasising his delight with the move.
“When the opportunity came about to sign for Torquay, it was one that I jumped at straight away,” said Hanson.
“Seeing how successful the team has been the last couple of years, it’s something that I want to be a part of. It’s a really good bunch of lads, even the quality of the side in the small games we did at the end [of training] was very impressive, so I’m sure there will only be good things to come from this squad hopefully.”
Following a full year of National League football with Dover, Ryan is hoping he can build on that experience by being a part of a Torquay side that he was so impressed by last time out.
“It was a bit of a difficult season really, so I was kind of at that bottom end of the league, where we were going away to teams and it would be a bit tough.
“I’ve played against Torquay twice last season, one here [Plainmoor] – which was a bit of a devastating day for us – but seeing the style of the team, and stuff like that, is really exciting. They had really good players last year, some of them have gone obviously, but hopefully the lads that have been brought in this year that are joining the group, can do really well.”
