Torquay United Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Czech central defender Jakub Sokolik on a deal until the end of the season.

Sokolik, 24, joins after leaving Plymouth Argyle in January. In total he made 20 appearances for the Pilgrims.

He is a former Banik Ostrava and Liverpool youth player that also played for EFL sides Yeovil Town and Southend United, and represented his country at U16 and U17 level.

“We’ve taken the opportunity to add to the squad and make sure that we’re as strong as possible going into the later stages of the season,” said TUFC head coach, Gary Owers.

“With Josh [Gowling] out [injured] we’re a centre-half down and Jakub being a free agent and based just along the road in Plymouth, I thought it was a good match. I spoke to him and I’m pleased that he is here.”

Sokolik brings with him experience of playing in the EFL, which is something that the Owers was looking for.

“The last couple of signings do have more experience and that is only going to add to what we are trying to do,” added Owers.

The move is subject to completion of paperwork.

We’ll be uploading a video interview with Jakub to Official TUFC TV soon.
