After renewing their shorts sponsorship, and remaining the Club’s partner gym for the 22/23 season, TUAFC’s partnership with Anytime Fitness continues to go from strength to strength.

After being unveiled as United’s official short sponsors last season, Anytime Fitness’ relationship with the Club was strengthened further after the Paignton-based venue became the official partner gym for The Gulls’ first team squad.

The presence of Ben Stubbs, the son of TUAFC legend Robin, as a Personal Trainer at the gym, only serves to further strengthen the bond between the two parties, with a number of Torquay’s senior players continuing to benefit from the facilities on offer at the gym.

“I think because of my close root of my Dad playing for the Club, I think having the team come in sort of strengthens that bond with me with the Club. I think it’s brilliant having the players come in and use the facilities,” said Ben.

“So if you want to come in and try the gym out, we offer a three-day trial pass so anyone can come in and try it. If you wanted to sign up to the gym, you can come in and chat about memberships, and what options we have. I am a Personal Trainer at the gym so if you’re looking at having that extra little push, then definitely come in and chat to me!”

Run by Noah Wright and Marcus Phillips, the gym on Torquay Road first opened in August 2018, and has since proved hugely popular with users from all across the bay, with its 24/7 opening hours offering unrivalled accessibility, as well providing its members with access to over 160 gyms across the country, and over 4,500 gyms worldwide.

Club Manager Marcus Phillips explained about the gym, TUAFC’s partnership with Anytime Fitness, and how it has benefitted both parties, as well as the wider community.

“We are a 24/7 state of the art fitness facility. Once you become a member here you can gain access with a simple key fob 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – we are pretty much never shut. We are a very tight-knit community club in the middle of Preston in Paignton.

“We’ve got really good membership rates across Torbay, but our central hub is here in Preston,” began Marcus.

“The partnership has been going really well. It originally started with our link with Ben Stubbs, and Robin Stubbs, the partnership there that we’ve got. Then what’s happened through that is the players have been using the club twice a week to do their fitness training, their strength training, and then outside of that a lot of the lads come in and top up their fitness levels throughout the week.

“It’s just been really good as well for us. It’s a really good atmosphere when the lads come in, it gives us the opportunity to showcase that we’re helping to support local business, and obviously a local sports team – it’s good for our members to see which probably maybe helps some of our members push them to come and view some games and help support the team and it’s been really good.

“We’ve got some supporters that weren’t ever really interested in the gym, that have become part of the community as well,” explained Marcus.
