After claiming the Gary Else Memorial League Cup on Saturday, Head of Youth Chris Todd spoke of his pride as his U18s’ superb season continued.

“I’m absolutely delighted for the players and their parents, they’ve gone through quite a lot this season. I’ve said it before, but it’s been quite a topsy-turvy season with Covid and everything.

“The pitch wasn’t ideal, it’s this time of the season and it is what it is, and you have to deal with that. You have toc clear their heads and say its the same for both teams. They were a good side and it was very competitive, it think it was a good spectacle, and I’m delighted for everyone.

“These boys are a credit to themselves, they’ve had a couple of weeks off, then we’ve come in and done some sessions last week, and it just shows. They didn’t have to come, in, it’s what they want to do do, and it’s their drive, commitment and hard work that has got them what they deserved today, because that is what it’s about.

“I’m so proud of them, to do a double at any level is outstanding, itt takes a lot of commitment. There’s a lot more that goes on that people don’t know about, the diet, the extra work they do in the gym – people don’t see that.

“I know how much they want it, and this group is a special group, and I’m honoured to be their manager this season.”
