Saturday saw United’s U18s close in further on the league leaders, following a 2-1 victory at Mangotsfield.

Fresh off the back of their 10-0 victory over Swindon Supermarine the previous weekend, Chris Todd’s U18s were on the road on Saturday to face third placed Mangotsfield United U18s – the only side to have beaten them in the league so far this season.

The Young Gulls were faced with an uphill battle after goalkeeper Lloyd Marshall was ruled out before kick off, and with no substitute goalkeeper available, Ben Aldous stepped up to go between the sticks. The youngster was kept busy in the first half and made a number of saves.

Despite the home side taking the lead, Todd’s side continued to battle and put Mangotsfield under a lot of pressure in the second half. Lewis Brookes levelled the scores before Jayden Gilbert came off the bench with fifteen minutes on the clock to score the winner in the final moments of the game.

The hard fought three points see United edge closer to league leaders Bridgwater; the Young Gulls can now set their sights on looking up and challenging for the top spot. Next up for Chris Todd’s side is Wimborne Town FC U18s who travel to South Devon 4G this Saturday, 12th February.
