Torquay United AFC is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Tony Scott.
Tony progressed through the ranks at West Ham and earned himself youth caps for England before he went on to make his debut for the Hammers’ first team in February 1960. Five years after his debut, Tony signed for Aston Villa where he made just shy of 60 appearances before arriving at Plainmoor two years later.
The pacy winger made 96 appearances across three seasons for United before moving on to AFC Bournemouth where he was a key figure in their 1970/71 promotion winning side. Following two seasons in Dorset, he moved back to Devon to play for rivals Exeter City before injuries forced his retirement.
Tony went into coaching thereafter, and worked alongside former United player John Bond at Manchester City and in Kuwait, before he and his wife emigrated to Australia in 1989.
Our condolences go out to all of his family and friends at this very sad time.
