With our youth teams returning to action last weekend, U12s coach Matt Anthony gave a reflection on their season so far.

“The U12s continued their fine form from last season with an emphatic 8-2 win against Bridgwater in the first game of this season and followed up with another big win against South Somerset RTC. Following these two brilliant victories, the team came up short against strong opposition in Juventus Devon & Saints Southwest Devon.”

“The team then came into some great form, picking up 5 wins from 6 games. The lads played some great football in these matches and scored 22 goals along the way, with goals being shared through multiple players which is great to see as we have worked a lot on getting bodies in & around the box to create and finish chances.”

“Alongside working on the attacking side of the game, there has been a clear improvement in the defence & when the team is out of possession. Every player has shown significant improvement in understanding their roles and positioning when the opposition has the ball. Adding to this, both goalkeepers have also stepped up their games and have pushed each other to be better. Both lads really support each other so it’s great to see the healthy competition. The team bond has also developed significantly which has helped on the pitch.”

“Recently, the team have been trying to prepare for an amazing away fixture coming up in February against the Under 12s of Liverpool FC. The boys will be travelling up to Liverpool’s Academy on Sunday 5th February to take on some of the countries brightest talents in what will be a memory they’ll hold for a long time to come.”
