Fresh from progressing through to Women’s FA Cup 1st Round for the first time, Torquay United Women FC will be playing another starring role at our game against Halifax, as the Club celebrates its partnership with #HerGameToo.

With the fixture against FC Halifax Town on Saturday, 27th November (3pm KO) seeing the Club provide 1,000 free tickets to young girls and women in Plainmoor’s Wollens Terrace, TUWFC Assistant Manager Matt Green spoke of his delight of the link-up.

“It’s excellent, the more exposure for women in sport, and football, is good,” said Matt

“It’s all going in the right direction for women in football, there’s lots of female clubs popping up, and as a Club we look to support that initiative from day one. It’s really good to hear that we’re all involved in something that drives women in sport, and women in football in particular, forward.”

The Womens’ side have made huge strides in recent seasons, which culminated in their inaugural Vitality FA Cup 1st round tie against St Austell last weekend, which saw the side bow out after their marvellous run in the competition.

“We had to go through two qualifying rounds, we beat Helston 3-0 at home and then we went away to Poole Town who are in the league above us, in the National League, and won 6-0. So, that got us into the first round proper, where we played St Austell.

“Unfortunately we lost 2-0, but it was obviously a very competitive game, with two first half goals that cost us. We created a few chances but didn’t take them on the day. Well done to St Austell,  the better team on the day won the fixture.

On what promises to be a special weekend against Halifax, members of the Womens’ side will be in attendance at the match, in order to meet and greet the Yellow Army, as well as support the #HerGameToo movement.

“It’s something were really keen to get involved with and support, and it should be a really good day up at Plainmoor”
