Awarded to Director Mel Hayman and Media Coordinator Jess Francis on behalf of Torquay United AFC, the Her Game Too Hero Award highlights the contributions of the club to the campaign.
Her Game Too aims to combat sexism in football and was founded by 12 passionate female football fans. The non-profit organisation aims to create an ethos in football which sees women being welcomed and respected equally and has a wide range of aims, with the focus of building a more welcoming environment for young girls and women, as well as continuing their campaign against sexism in football and online abuse.
TUAFC announced its partnership with Her Game Too last month by becoming the first club to offer an entire stand to the campaign, with 1,000 free tickets made available for females. The Community Day in aid of Her Game Too took place on Saturday 27th November when United hosted FC Halifax Town, and a tremendous response from the Yellow Army and the local community saw many females claim the free tickets in the Wollen’s Terrace.
Speaking of TUAFC receiving the Award, Her Game Too Co-Founder Lucy Ford said:
“We are delighted that Torquay United are the recipients of the November HerGameToo Hero Award. When they informed us about donating 1,000 free tickets to women and girls in Torquay for their game against FC Halifax Town in November to celebrate our partnership, we were blown away by this gesture so we felt this was a good way to thank them for this and for their continued support of Her Game Too.”
Speaking of receiving the award, Media Coordinator Jess Francis said:
“Myself, Mel and everyone at TUAFC is honoured to receive this award. The Club prides itself on being an all-inclusive, family friendly environment for everyone, regardless of gender. Her Game Too is such an important organisation and we are delighted to be partnered with them, and look forward to continuing to work with them.”
