Torquay United U16s have reached the semi-final of the JPL National Cup and will play Oxford City FC (kick-off 1pm) on Saturday at Torquay Academy.
The U16s progressed in the competition after winning through a group tournament and then going on to best teams from Yeovil, Portsmouth, Reading, Oxford, and North Somerset.
“We beat Yeovil Town on penalties, Portsmouth on penalties, and then Reading away 5-2 which has been the best result of our run,” said U16s assistant manager, Don Ford.
“We’ve now got Oxford City on Saturday, and if we win that then we’ll play against Newcastle who beat MK Dons in the other semi-final. The final is taking place at Port Vale and hopefully we can get there.
“The team have done exceptionally well because we can also still win the league. They’re a great bunch of players and their mentalities have been fantastic. They’ve shown total commitment to the team.
“We go out to try and win every game and go out from minute one to attack. We play a passing game but we can mix it up when we want to.”
