United’s Women provided the perfect response to last weekend’s FA Cup disappointment, as they secured a superb 3-0 win at Poole Town Ladies.

Having recently rejoined the Club, Esme Kilburn Thompson wasted little time in getting back on the goal trail for Steve Elswood’s side, with the former Exeter City striker bagging an early brace to set Torquay on their way.

Poole, without a win so far this term, never looked likely to spoil an excellent weekend for the Club, and once Ellie Bishop added a third just before the break, it was largely done and dusted in Dorset.

Those welcome three points saw United strengthen their promotion credentials in 4th position, six points behind league leaders Forest Green Rovers, whilst possessing three games in hand over their title rivals.

With the Gloucestershire-based outfit going down to a heavy defeat at home to Bristol Rovers (3rd) yesterday, Elswood’s team will be eyeing up the chance to cut the gap even further on Sunday, with the two sides set to meet at Coach Road, a venue where Torquay currently boast a 100% league record.
