Tickets are now available for Torquay United Women’s home match v Sherborne, with the clash being held at Plainmoor this Sunday, 19th March (2pm KO).

Following their postponement of Sunday’s game, TUWFC’s 2-0 win against Warminster Town Ladies last weekend was the ladies last outing, and left Steve Elswood’s side are now within touching distance of following up last season’s Devon Premier Cup-winning campaign by going one step further, and securing fourth-tier football for TUWFC for the first time in their history.

United are currently only separated by league leaders Bristol Rovers by three points, but also possess a crucial two games in hand, meaning it promises to be a hugely exciting end to the South West Regional Women’s Premier campaign, with the fixture against Sherborne potentially proving pivotal to Torquay’s aspirations.

With the link between TUAFC and TUWFC going from strength to strength over the past 18 months, members of the Women’s squad have frequent visitors to Plainmoor on first-team matchdays, and now the Yellow Army will now have the perfect opportunity to cheer Elswood’s side on to another vital victory, in what could yet prove to be a historic season for the team.

Hosting this match at Plainmoor is a further statement of intent by TUAFC, who remain committed to promoting the Club as an all-inclusive environment when everybody is welcome, and follows on from the appointment of TUWFC captain Danni Wyatt as United’s official #HerGameToo Ambassador last month.

With the Sherbourne fixture on March 19th coinciding with Mothering Sunday, this occasion is a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to come together and show their support for United’s women, at the home of Torquay United AFC, with the Gulls Nest open from midday for refreshments ahead of kick-off.

Elswood, meanwhile, is delighted that his side will get the opportunity to finish their season in style at Plainmoor.

“It’s been an amazing season so far, and to play our final home game of the season at Plainmoor in front of the Yellow Army just tops it off,” said the TUWFC boss.

“We are in a battle now with Bristol Rovers for the title and promotion, and that could go down to the wire, so to have our amazing fans support us in their numbers will give us that extra push and momentum we need to achieve our goal which I set the ladies at the start of the season.

“I talk a lot about our journey since the county cup final victory and it’s not about my coaching team and the players, it’s also about our supporters as well being on this journey with us. Some who travel to our games, home and away, regardless. To have them in numbers at Plainmoor will be incredible.

“We want nothing more than to showcase our successes this season in what will be a tough fixture, no doubt, against a good footballing outfit in Sherborne Town, but one we hope will give us one foot into tier-4 football, or even achieve it dependant on the next couple of weeks.

“I just want to in advance thank all the fans who will come and support us on the day, and the Club who have been supportive in making this an amazing day for us all.”
