With TUWFC close to completing their first season at National League level, Chairman Steve Elswood paid tribute to his side’s efforts – on and off the pitch.
Although Torquay United’s Women have it all to do to retain their tier-four status with a vital game at home to fellow relegation-battlers Portishead at Dawlish this Sunday (2pm KO), Elswood took time to look at the bigger picture, with TUWFC’s players and staff continuing to play an important part in the Club’s progression.
“I’d like to begin by thanking the Torquay fans for their support,” said Steve.
“Together, the fans, players and staff have made some amazing memories in getting promotion to tier 4 and National League football, and we will be giving it all we’ve got to try and make that continue.
“No matter what blows come at us the squad we have is full of heart and belief in each other. It’s certainly a smaller, declined squad than we started with, but I wouldn’t change them and know they’ll give their all for the badge.”
United’s Women aren’t just familiar faces to those who watch them do battle on a Sunday afternoon in the FAWNL however, with members of the squad playing a key role in matchdays at Plainmoor, where they also serve the Club admirably as Mascot Coordinators.
Elswood is for his part, clearly delighted by the strong bond that exists between TUFC and TUWFC.
“We feel so supported by everyone at the Club, by all the staff at Plainmoor, in what has been a challenging first season for us all, and we look forward to our partnership continuing.”
