Torquay United Women’s National League Plate tie against Exeter City has been cancelled, with Steve Elswood’s side forced to withdraw from the competition.

With Emma Hollingsworth the latest TUWFC to sustain injury last weekend against Bournemouth, United have reluctantly had to put their ambitions of more knockout success on hold for now, as manager Elswood gets to grip with a crippling injury list that is marring Torquay’s first season at National League level.

“Sunday’s game is off. We have withdrawn from the Plate due to our widening injury list, including Emma’s torn MCL, and others carrying knocks,” confirmed Steve.

“With the also being the third ACL recently, the ladies need a bit of healing time themselves. Mentally with so many, it is disheartening for them, and we can now focus on the League and Cup campaigns.

“For three different defenders to suffer ACL injuries seems a harsh curse perhaps, and overall, we have ten injuries in differing forms of severity. Our priority is the League, starting with focusing on Selsey in two weeks’ time at Brixham FC.

“Then we hit a period of FA Cup and County Cup matches, so it’s a busy time, and we need to be fresh and ready.”
