Having already secured the SWCYL title for a third successive season, United’s U18s ended their league campaign with another win on Saturday.

With star winger Jacob Wellington called up for first-team duty against Havant & Waterlooville, Kevin Wills’ side began their final league match of the season at Swindon Supermarine brightly, and deservedly made the initial breakthrough with a close range effort from Andrew Ellis.

Leading 1-0 at the break, The Young Gulls continued to enjoy the better of proceedings in the second period, and therefore it came as something of a shock when the hosts drew level via a strike from Dylan Griffin.

Torquay responded perfectly to the setback though, and almost immediately regained the lead, as some superb work from Gene Price paved the way for Ellis to turn provide for Lucas Robinson to fire his side back in front, and that was the way it stayed.

Having clocked up their 14th win in 16 matches, Wills’s side undoubtedly deserved to win their latest title, having finished nine points clear of nearest challengers Bridgwater.

All attentions now turn to Plainmoor on Saturday, where those two sides will be locking horns once again, as United go in search of matching their league achievement by making it a hat-trick of League Cup successes.
