United’s Under-18s continued their impressive form on Saturday morning, as they secured a 3-0 win over Mangotsfield at South Devon College.

A fifth win in six games sees Ryan Dickson’s side strengthen their bid to retain the South West Counties Youth League title they won last term, with the Young Gulls holding a number of games in hand over the sides above them in the current standings.

Isaac McCue got Torquay off to flyer by opening the scoring, with his firm left-footed effort giving the visiting goalkeeper no chance.

That interval advantage was doubled shortly after the restart, as George Collins got in on the act, as his intelligent late run capped off by an empathic finish from the edge box to make it 2-0.

Further gloss was then added to proceedings, as leading marksman Ben Aldous added a confident one-on-one finish to his growing seasonal tally to wrap up victory in the dying stages.

United’s U18 boss was delighted with the showing from his side.

“It was a really competitive game,” said Dickson.

“It always is against Mangotsfield. There was some real quality on show from both sides.

“Defensively, as a collective unit, I thought we were outstanding in managing the game, and in possession, our three in midfield really showed their quality at times in building the attack and creating chances.”

United are back in action next Saturday with another home game, as fellow title-challengers Cirencester Town head to South Devon College.
