Torquay United AFC is pleased to announce the loan signings of Nelson Iseguan and Tommy Hughes, ahead of this afternoon’s clash against FC Halifax Town at The Shay.
The arrival of Nelson from local rivals Exeter City, and Tommy from fellow League One outfit Ipswich Town provides Gulls boss Gary Johnson with further attacking options for the season ahead, with the Gaffer understandably pleased to finalise deals for both players on loan, initially until January.
Highly-rated Exeter man Iseguan, 19, rose through the ranks at St James Park before a loan stint at Tiverton Town preceded his first-team bow for City in their 4-0 demolition of West Brom U21s in the Football League Trophy last November.
Having figured in a number of The Grecians’ pre-season friendlies this summer, the pacy winger is now ready to take on the challenge of National League football in a yellow shirt instead.
“We’ve kept an eye on Nelson for a little while,” confirmed Johnson.
“He’s been developing at Exeter. In a conversation with them, his name came up, and it was agreed that the next part of his development was to get him involved with a first team squad, so we agreed.
“He’s a left-sided player, with great pace and good quality on the ball, and joins our first-team squad.”
Hughes, meanwhile, has been identified as one of Ipswich’s most promising young players for some time now, having made his senior debut for the Portman Road club as an 18 year-old back in 2019.
With the talented attacker going on to produce a number of eye-catching performances for Town’s U23 side – including scoring a hat-trick against QPR earlier this year – as well as playing and scoring for The Tractor Boys during the most recent close season, Tommy’s addition provides Torquay’s boss with yet another valuable ‘club in the golf bag’ for 2022/23.
“We’re pleased that between ourselves, Tommy Hughes and Ipswich, it’s agreed that he’ll join us.
“He’s a striker, come attacking midfielder. He comes highly recommended, we like what we see, and he joins our squad immediately.”
Welcome to Plainmoor, Nelson & Tommy!
