TUAFC is delighted to announce that Tommy Rackley has become the third member of our volunteer team to have been awarded the Vanarama National League Volunteer of the Month award this season.
Every month three winners are chosen from each of the three National League divisions to highlight the outstanding contribution made by volunteers across the the three divisions that make up the National League.
Tommy has been a regular volunteer at TUAFC now for a number of years, however since emerging from Covid restrictions, Tommy’s commitment to the Club and its supporters has only increased further.
Despite the tragic passing of his mother recently, Tommy has continued to fulfil his much-valued duties without pause, including pre-match litter collection both inside and outside the ground, in addition to his post-match tasks of clearing the stands, emptying the bins, and searching for lost property. More recently, Tommy has also assisted in the Club’s bars by glass collecting.
Tommy was delighted to receive the award for March:
“Its made my whole career working for Torquay United actually, because as you know I’ve worked 46 seasons and I’ve always had the clothing, respect from the family, from my family who works here, John, I’ve had respect from all of the Torquay United family, player, and all management.
“It’s just gratitude that I’ve actually got an award for something that I’ve been doing for a very long time, and I’ve loved doing it – and my nephew, he’s always saying about retiring, and I said ‘what’s the point, I’m only 53?’, and I enjoy every minute of it.”
Tommy is the third of United’s volunteers to win the award this season, and Torquay United AFC is privileged to be able to call upon a whole host of volunteers, who all play a vital role in the smooth running of the Club.
Anybody who shares our passion for pushing our Club onto greater heights, and would like to join our team of volunteers either throughout the week or also on matchdays, are invited to contact us via [email protected], detailing which areas of the Club is of particular interest to them.
Congratulations, Tommy!
