Torquay United AFC is delighted to announce its latest initiative, which will see local children within the Torbay community given the VIP treatment at Plainmoor.
This new venture will enable up to sixty local children, with autism and other learning difficulties, to experience live football – with some of them attending a professional sporting event for the very first time.
TUAFC is proud to be recognised as an all-inclusive, family-orientated Club, and this latest link-up will again see the Club playing an active and supportive role at the very heart of the Torbay community.
Working together with Play Torbay and Torbay Council Children’s Services, the Club will be providing VIP tours to the children ahead of each match, enabling them to meet members of the Club’s footballing staff and off-field team and familiarise themselves with the stadium and their surroundings prior to the big day.
Following the tour, the children will have access to a reserved room specially set aside for them to take part in structured activities, including art, crafts and games.
Matchdays will see the children invited to Plainmoor as guests of the Club, and enjoy the thrills and spills that only live sport can provide, as well as giving them a unique opportunity to build a lifelong passion for Torquay United.
This exciting new initiative will begin on November 26th for the home clash against Gateshead, with the children also benefitting from a Gift Voucher to spend in either the Club Shop or the Food Kiosk.
As well as working together with Play Torbay and Torbay Council Children’s Services, TUAFC would like to thank the Torquay United Supporters Trust (TUST) for assisting with the Club’s latest community initiative.
Play Torbay is a non-profit organisation based in Brixham helping disadvantaged children, and their Communications Manager, Carmen Silva, spoke of her excitement ahead of the launch at the Chesterfield game.
“We are extremely excited to partner with Torquay United and the Torquay United Supporters Trust. The inclusion of local children, especially those with additional needs, at Torquay United’s home matches will be an experience they will probably not have been able to participate in before and we cannot wait to see their happy faces.”
Meanwhile, the Trust’s Supporter Liaison Officer, Nick Brodrick, had this to say:
“We are really excited and pleased to be working with the Football Club, Play Torbay and Children’s Services on this very worthwhile project to give these local children a ‘once in a lifetime’ chance to watch Torquay United, and then develop a habit of coming again.”
Disability Liasion Officer at TUAFC, Jo Harris, is delighted at playing a part in the Children’s VIP packages, and is eagerly awaiting the launch on November 26th.
“I’m really excited to be involved with this new initiative. We’re looking forward to welcoming these children to Plainmoor and showing them what Torquay United AFC is all about.
“Hopefully it will be the start of a love of the Club that will last a lifetime!”
Any organisations that would like to work with the Football Club on future initiatives are invited to contact the Club by emailing Jo via [email protected].
