United’s Under-18 defender Charlie Wills has been named in the 2023/24 English Colleges FA National Mens Squad.
With the Club’s youth team continuing a fine run of form which has recently seen the Under-18s register their eighth win of the season, Charlie was named on the bench for United’s first-team fixture away at Frome in the Isuzu FA Trophy last weekend, and has also gained further recognition, being named in the ECFA National Mens Squad. Charlie follows in the footsteps of former youth players Ben Aldous and Calum Thomas, who made last season’s squad.
Following a number of rigorous trials across the country in recent months, Charlie was one of twenty to be selected as part of the squad. He has recently spent two days training with his national teammates at England’s St George’s Park training facilities.
The squads first fixture on 26th November saw them register a 4-1 victory, and in February, Charlie will travel with the squad to compete in the Roma Caput Mundi tournament in Italy.
Speaking of Wills’ achievement, United Head of Youth Robbie Herrera was delighted for the United youngster.
“It’s a fantastic achievement to be recognised to play for the English Colleges FA,” began Robbie.
“Two days at St George’s Park for a training camp and looking around the facilities is a great experience. No doubt Charlie will be looking forward to the upcoming tournament in Italy come February, and we wish him well.”
Congratulations, Charlie!
