Youth development central defender Josh Baxter has taken another step forward in his football career by signing on non-contract terms with TUFC.

Baxter, 16, was a part of United’s U16s team last season and is set to graduate into the pathway for 16-18 year-olds run by Torquay Academy and Torquay United.

United’s Head of Academy Coaching, Shaun Taylor, runs the 16-18s and sees Baxter as having potential to progress.

“Josh has been with the U16s under Chris Hogg and Don Ford last season,” said Taylor. “I came along in January and was able to watch games and to be fair to Josh and Olaf [Kozela], they were the boys that looked promising.

“He’s been a part of Torquay Academy’s pre-season work. Both players will hopefully play for the school and on Saturday morning’s in the youth league.”

“He’s a big and strong lad who is very confident, sometimes over-confident but that’s not always a bad thing. At this particular time he’s showing a lot of promise.”

Josh is looking forward to taking on the challenge.

“I’m a kid that loves football and it’s where I want to be,” said Josh (pictured). “I want to improve and play at the highest level I can.

“I like to bring the ball out and play. I’m delighted to be here and I’m looking forward to what’s coming up.”
