A SOLITARY strike from Olaf Koszela was enough for United’s Under-16s to progress past Oxfordshire Football Development in the second round of the JPL Cup last weekend.
After a bright start from both sides, it was Oxford FD who went closest to opening the scoring from a header that flew just over the bar. Shortly after it was the turn of Torquay United to go agonisingly close when a thunderous left-foot drive from Harry Ford crashed against the crossbar. The first half came to a close with the teams level at 0-0.
The deadlock was broken with a fierce low shot into the corner by the dangerous Koszela and United then defended very well to protect the lead. The final 10 minutes saw the visitors putting on the pressure and in the final seconds of the game Oxford had a free kick in a dangerous position, but we survived the threat to secure a terrific win.
It is a busy weekend for the United squads in the Junior Premier League, with our under-16s travelling to Portsmouth, under-14s at Gloucester City, under-12s at Saints South-West and under-11s visit South Gloucester.
The home fixtures for the United youngsters this weekend include the under-15s welcoming Paulton Rovers, under-13s v Saints South-West, under-11s Blue v FC Wiltshire and training at Seale Hayne for the under-8s to under-10s.
