Torquay United AFC is delighted to announce the signing of former Cheltenham Town winger Alex Addai on a short-term contract.

Former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Alex, 27, began his professional career at Blackpool, before successful stints at non-League Whitehawk, Kingstonian, Grays and Merstham heralded his return to the Football League ranks with Cheltenham, where he went onto make 81 appearances, scoring 10 goals.

Having been the manager that afforded Addai that opportunity at Whaddon Road during his time in charge of The Robins, Gulls boss Gary Johnson is delighted to link up with the pacy wideman once again, ahead of Tuesday night’s clash against another of the latter’s former clubs, Solihull Moors.

“I’m pleased to have signed Alex Addai, we didn’t have a full bench at one stage, so it was good to be able to get Alex onto the bench,” said the Gaffer

“He’s been training with us for a week. I know him well of course from my Cheltenham days, I took him to Cheltenham, he’s very quick, he’s strong, but he’s not fit at the moment.

“So we’ve had him in for a week and decided to put him on a short-term contract with a view to signing a longer contract. He’s a great lad, and he’s probably going to be one of the quickest in the league, which is great, because we needed a bit of pace.

“He might be a good impact player for us tonight, as he’s got himself on the bench straightaway due to the shortage of numbers, because obviously Armani’s not fit, Lapslie’s not fit, so we needed him to come in.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him when he’s proper fit, and that will be in a week or two’s time.”
