Gary Johnson gave his reaction to the news that the winners of Wednesday night’s replay at Havant & Waterlooville will take on League One side Charlton Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup First Round.

Although there’s still plenty of work in store for Johnson’s men in order to overcome their opponents following yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Plainmoor, United’s boss feels a trip to League One opponents who were competing in The Championship as recently as 2020 is an excellent incentive for both sides to progress.

“Both us and Havant will feel that it’s a great draw,” began the Gaffer.

“I’m sure we’d both look forward to going to Charlton, if that’s the case. Obviously we’ve got 90-odd minutes to play yet before we can get excited, so it might give a little bit more motivation to both teams, because away to Charlton would be a good game. They’re always games where teams can assess their players by playing a first division team, to see how far, or near you are.”
