With 2022/23 being Gary Johnson’s fourth in charge of The Gulls, the Yellow Army are being encouraged to take advantage of the Club’s Early Discount savings and secure their spot for what promises to be an exciting new season!
Having won United’s first league title in 92 years by securing the National League South championship during the Gaffer’s record-breaking first campaign in charge, his side followed that up by proving their worth at the higher level with a number of impressive performances prior to the season’s early curtailment.
Despite playing almost the entirety of 2020/21 behind closed doors, the next term went even better, as Torquay started flew out of the traps, and continued to lead the way at the top of the Vanarama National League for much of the season, before agonisingly missing out on a second title in three years during the closing stages.
Undeterred, Johnson’s men regrouped by producing more memories to savour in the Play-Offs, with only the width of a crossbar – not to mention a fair degree of misfortune – denying The Gulls from regaining their place back in the EFL.
A summer of rebuilding saw the men in yellow recover from a tough start last time out, as a stirring second half to 2021/22 saw the team go close to securing a top-seven spot.
With the building blocks already being put into place though, the Yellow Army can be assured that all eyes at Plainmoor will be on another sustained push for promotion beginning in August, as the Club looks to secure its place back in the sacred Football League once more.
Gary’s reign has seen him clock up a win percentage of over 51%, marking him out as the most successful manager of the Club during the past century. With over 300 goals scored during his time at the helm, United’s supporters have certainly not been short of entertainment.
As shown many times during the past ten months, our wonderful supporters can make all the difference, and we’re looking forward to seeing as many of back again following the summer with everyone at the Club fully focused on making 2022/23 a season to remember!
