You’ll want to book a place for a pre-match meal on Tuesday night (Vs Gateshead), because we will be joined by members of the 1987 team that clinched a dramatic final day point to stay in the Football League.
Many United fans will know the ‘tail’ of how Bryn the police dog bought the Club precious minutes to score the equalizer that kept United up on the final day of the 1986/87 season.
United were 2-1 down to Crewe Alexandra leading into the final minutes. United needed a goal to edge ahead of Lincoln on goal difference. Defender Jim McNichol, who had scored United’s goal to keep them in the game, was trying to keep the ball in play when he was bitten by Bryn on the leg. The resulting stoppage in play allowed Paul Dobson to score the goal that clinched survival.
Members of that team will be in No.10s in Tuesday night, and one or more will be answering questions about that famous match in United’s history.
