One half of United’s double-signing on Tuesday was Corie Andrews, as boss Gary Johnson clinched a deal for the ex-AFC Wimbledon striker.

Corie began his career with Premier League side Crystal Palace, before his impressive form in non-league circles for the likes of Whyteleafe and Kingstonian prompted EFL side Wimbledon to offer Andrews a route back to the professional ranks in January 2021.

A temporary spell at Torquay’s National League rivals Aldershot saw the 24 year-old really catch the eye, with 9 goals in just 20 appearances catching the attentions of League Two side Colchester, who promptly took the talented frontman on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

Having been courted by a number of clubs following his impressive form in 2021/22, Andrews spoke of his eagerness to get going in a Yellow shirt, after securing a move to Plainmoor.

“I’m delighted. I had a bit of a wait, but the staff have looked after me, the players have been helpful and welcoming, so I’ve settled now already, but I’m delighted to get it done.

“I’ve spoken to quite a few people that have played for Torquay and they’ve just had good things to say about the Club. I’ve spoken to people who have played against Torquay, and they’re saying that coming here, as a team against Torquay, is one of the worst places to come!

“The Gaffer has good experience, so I just want to come here and just excel.”
