One of the new faces in United’s 2-0 pre-season win at Exmouth last night was former Plymouth Argyle defender Ollie Tomlinson, who had sealed a move to Plainmoor just prior to kick-off.

The 20 year-old’s move to Torquay sees the talented young centre-back bolster Gary Johnson’s defensive options ahead of the 2022/23 National League campaign, as an exciting new-look Gulls squad continues to take shape.

“I’m really buzzing,” said Ollie upon completing the move.

“It’s a massive Club and I think it’s a good place for me to move forward in my career and develop myself.”

Having made his debut for Argyle just under two years ago, Tomlinson went on to chalk up seven appearances for The Pilgrims’ first-team, before gaining further senior experience elsewhere, including a successful spell at Truro City last term, where he made 27 appearances, scoring 2 goals.

His release at Home Park during the close season sparked a number of other clubs to show interest, however the Ivybridge-born man feels that the English Riviera is the ideal place for him to take the next step in his career, with Ollie clearly eager to get to work under his new manager.

“There’s loads to learn from him, and he’ll really help me moving forward.

“I need to start getting games, and try and get into the first team here, get playing, and really develop myself.”

After appeared in both of United’s opening pre-season victories at Buckland and Exmouth, Tomlinson now has this weekend’s home clash with Newport County to look forward to, with a swift reunion with his former Plymouth teammates next Tuesday.
