Having made his debut for the Club in the final day draw at Southend, young midfielder Alex Moyse is looking to build on that progress in 2022/23.
Fresh from agreeing terms to extend his stay at Plainmoor following his maiden appearance off the bench in the latter stages of United’s 1-1 draw at Roots Hall, the former Exeter City trainee is now preparing for the hard graft of pre-season preparation, after a well-earned summer break.
“I have enjoyed the break so far,” said Alex.
“I didn’t manage to get abroad this year but I’ve been up to London a couple of times as I’ve got some family and friends up there. I got a little bit of rest, but after one or two weeks, I got straight back into it and I’m looking forward to a new season. I’ve been working hard and definitely been getting a lot of running and fitness in.
“I actually really like pre-season to be fair. I like getting back into it, but obviously with a few weeks off it can be tough. If you keep up with your own pre-season, I find you go into it looking forward to it, feeling sharp and ready to get going. I’m looking forward to seeing the lads again and meeting the new signings that we get.”
After giving the Yellow Army a few glimpses of his obvious potential with a number of impressive cameo appearances during last year’s warm up matches, loan spells as Southern League sides Tiverton and Bideford aided his progression even further, with Moyse then going on to be included in Gary Johnson’s matchday squad for the final two fixtures.
With next term being his second as a professional after switching to Torquay’s youth programme, Alex knows that there is still plenty of hard work still ahead – in both the summer, and the 2022/23 campaign that follows it.
“My big goal is to see how many minutes I can get this season for the first team, but if that isn’t to be the case I’d like to get another loan out, and make it a good loan.
“My main priority is to get a good pre-season in, and see how I go from there.”
