With preparations continuing to take place behind the scenes ahead of the forthcoming campaign, TUAFC would like to place on record its thanks to everyone that has purchased a Season Ticket for 2022/23.
The terrific response the Club has received is further proof of the excitement levels building amongst the Yellow Army, as Gary Johnson’s side look to secure promotion back to the promised land of the EFL next season.
We caught up with a few of those who have already secured their spots for 2022/23, to find out what they love most about matches at Plainmoor!
Rachel Malloch, from Paignton, has been watching The Gulls since 1993. Although her Torquay ‘debut’ saw the men in yellow go down 1-0 against Walsall, Rachel was not put off by the defeat, and despite attending matches at both Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle shortly after, she soon decided that Plainmoor was where her heart was!

“I was in the process of moving from a leafy suburb in Birmingham – well accustomed to watching Aston Villa – but it felt as good a home-from-home as any,” begins Rachel.
“I’ve always found the social side good – either meeting up with friends or seeing familiar faces. There have been times in previous years when I would go to games alone, and there would always be fellow supporters to have a chinwag with.
“I like that there is a family feel too, you see a lot of youngsters at the games and that for me is what it’s all about. I’ve since taken my young nieces and young nephews to games and it has always been an enjoyable experience, they all appear to love it!”
Like Rachel, long-standing Torquay fanatic Roger Lester will be another familiar face to other members of the Yellow Army, travelling the length and breadth of the country to support the team he loves.

“My first match was at the age of 6 with my Uncle Bill. It was on 26th December 1959 against Exeter. It was the old Division 4, which we came 3rd in, and were promoted to Division 3. The funny thing is a lot of the clubs then are in the National League now, whilst two are now in the Premier League.”
For Roger, despite travelling lengthy distances for home games, it’s clear those fortnightly reunions with his football family makes it all worthwhile.
“The best thing watching at Plainmoor is the supporters, volunteers and the staff making it one big happy family.”
With family being at the heart of Torquay United AFC’s core values, Jon Hiscoke told us why he and his family decided to get on board for 2022/23, having taken advantage of the Club’s new Family Season Ticket deal.

“I’ve been going to Plainmoor for approximately the last 25 years, with my brother and dad. Our first game was with the Cub Scouts as part of a community day and we soon became regular visitors to Plainmoor. My two boys have both enjoyed going to see The Gulls, and securing a Family Season Ticket for the 22/23 season made sense.
“Going to a game is something we all look forward to, and it is incredible watching my lads falling in love with Torquay United. When they ask, “who are we playing today?” they feel part of the community and the club. My dad, brother and I have always had Torquay United, a constant in an ever-changing world. I am proud that I can extend this to my two boys and continue to follow the club we all care for.
“For the upcoming season, we’re looking forward to another season under Gary Johnson – winning the league with 4 games to spare would be ideal. Hopefully we’ll be on our way, on our way, to the Football League, on our way!”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
