Popular former Gulls left-back Robbie Herrera was on hand to present the awards on Friday, as TUCST hosted their U11 Mixed tournament Coach Road.

Former Torquay United left-back Herrera, who also represented Queens Park Rangers, Fulham and Leyton Orient during his illustrious playing career, is now Head of Youth at Plainmoor, and therefore it was fitting that he was on hand to watch the group of excited youngsters contest a keenly-fought tournament at Devon FA HQ, before handing out awards to the players.

With over 100 local children attending from Babbacombe, Cockington, Eden Park, Oldway, Roselands and Bishopsteignton primary schools, the Torquay United Community Sports Trust-run event determined which school would go on to represent TUCST at the regional competition next year.

“It was a good day, and there were quite a few schools,” said Robbie.

“Sherwell Valley eventually won it, but there was lots of good talent on show. Every team had boys and girls involved too, which was good to see. It was well-organised, well-run, and it was a good day for all the kids.”

Matt Anthony of TUCST echoed those sentiments.

“Every team played some brilliant football and it was great to see both boys and girls working well together.

“It was great to see Sherwell Valley retain the trophy from last year, and huge credit goes to Warberry for pushing them all the way.”
