Following the launch of its Former Players Association launch two years ago, TUAFC has been delighted with the response it has received Gulls stars of yesteryear.

Only last week, former United heroes Paul Trollope (1992-95) and Dave Rudge (1975-77) took part in an excellent Q&A session with our Retro Gulls, whilst last month former Torquay centre-back Guy Branston (2010-11) followed up his role as ambassador at the Club’s opening Community Day by making his second appearance as TUFC Radio co-commentator for the 2-2 draw with Barnet.

Current Head of Youth and ex-Gulls defender Chris Todd (2007-2010) showed he hadn’t lost any of his competitive edge recently, by taking part in Boots & Laces’ inaugural Let’s Get Quizzical event, and popular ex-Gulls ‘keeper John Turner (1978-1980 & 1983-84) continues to delight guests by combining his role as Matchday Bars Manager with his pre-match chats in our No.10s Restaurant.

“It’s absolutely wonderful,” said John.

“I’m seeing people that I’ve known for years, have supported me as a player, and now I’m meeting them on a matchday, and I think it’s fantastic.”

With Robin Stubbs (1963-69 & 1972-74) already well-established in his role as Life President at Plainmoor, Gary Johnson’s current stars out on the pitch are also being ably supported by a whole host of former favourites off it!

Although Torquay United AFC is proud to be a forward-thinking Club determined to scale new heights on and off the pitch in the future, the Club’s board is also committed to celebrating the heritage of the club, with the recent release of our new third shirt paying homage to a century of football at Plainmoor by being replicating Torquay’s previous home colours of black & white stripes.

The aim of our Former Players Association is to recognise those who have contributed to the Club on the field over the years, with the focus on being able to preserve and share the heritage of the Torquay United AFC, giving it a platform for future success.

Any former players who are interested in being involved to future events, or attending future League Matches, are asked to contact Jo Harris on 01803 328666 (Monday – Friday 10am – 2pm) or email [email protected].
