United’s Under-16 side rounded off a superb season by becoming champions of their U16 JPL division recently.

Following a phenomenal campaign for United’s Under-16 side, which saw them win 17 out of their 20 fixtures, the Young Gulls finished the season as Champions of the U16 JPL One South West – Navy division.

The season began for United’s Under-16s back in September where they registered 6 successive victories. Not deterred after dropping points throughout November and December though, the side picked themselves back up and went on to enjoy a fantastic nine game unbeaten run to secure the title, which included an emphatic 6-2 victory over second placed Bridgwater United U16 Red. The Young Gulls then rounded off the season in style, with a 5-2 victory over Exeter RTC U16s.

Whilst it’s been a fantastic season for United’s Under-16s as a whole, the Under-16s top scorer tally is impressive, with Adam Reda Khalaf and Jacob Wellington both scoring 11 goals each, meanwhile the side’s third top goalscorer was Toby Hard who scored 10 goals across the Young Gulls 20 fixtures.

Under-16s manager Connor Marshall was understandably delighted to see his side top the table.

“I am very happy and proud that we have won the league in my first season as manager for Torquay United U16’s. They have overcome so many odds stacked against them, with no pre season and me coming in as manager just before the first game of the season, to now winning the league is incredible,” began Connor.

“Especially with them last season not being close to the top half of the table at all is a massive achievement. This is a credit to them all and their dedication and hard work! Some of them have been called up on regular basis to the U18’s too which is another achievement I am very proud of.

“I am excited to see how they all get on in their careers in football whether that’s with the 18’s or in other ventures in football they have all out done themselves,” said Connor.
